An update from Malawi and Mozambique
Malawi and Mozambique – two countries already in crisis because of extreme weather and intensified food insecurity – are now suffering the effects of Cyclone Jude.
In Malawi, around 20,000 people have been made homeless from the south of the country where there has been heavy flooding. Following some short-term closures, schools have now been able to reopen. Our programme is continuing to operate, providing nutritious daily meals to schoolchildren all over Malawi.
In Mozambique, the cyclone caused major disruption in the north and central regions. The area where we work, in the south of the country, experienced significant rainfall and some schools were temporarily inaccessible as a result. As the weather has begun to improve, normal school feeding operations have resumed without any serious complications.
