Canada – a basketball bonanza!
Basketball players in Canada raise more than $2,750 to feed 86 children for an entire school year.
Published onMary’s Meals Canada’s annual Basketball Bonanza has become somewhat of an institution, and last year’s was no different! The much-anticipated event – where Calgary Police and Calgary Fire departments went head-to-head on the basketball court for a sixth year to win the Porridge Cup – drew a crowd of students, teachers and families to raise vital funds for Mary’s Meals.
Held this year in Heritage Christian Academy, the event raised $2,754 – enough to provide daily meals for 86 children for an entire school year. And it also had an unexpected winner. Despite the reigning champions – the Calgary Police Department – being favourites to win, it was the Calgary Fire Department that came out on top after maintaining the lead for most of the evening!
